There is a strong belief that home staging or styling a property for sale involves ‘neutralising’ the spaces so that the potential buyer is not confused, influenced or put off by the ‘personality’ of a house, particularly one that is still lived in. And there is no doubt that to a certain extent this works.
However, and I quote: “our lives are not beige, so why should our homes be nothing but beige.”
Why indeed! Colour trends in fashion have always influenced colour trends in decor, but slowly. It used to be that it would take 5 or 6 years for a fashionable colour to make it’s way onto a sofa or a roll of wallpaper. Nowadays the process is much quicker.
Pantone’s colour of the year for 2013 is EMERALD GREEN which means that we shall begin to see this colour creep into the fashion and homewards stores in the very near future. It doesn’t mean that everything will be emerald green, merely that this will be a dominant colour.
Not sure? Pantone’s colour of the year 2012 was TANGERINE TANGO (that’s orange to your and I) and as I write this blog I am wearing an orange t-shirt, my current favourite, so don’t you dare think for one moment we are not influenced by them – we are – colour is necessary for creating a sense of balance in just about everything, so why would we want to ‘neutralise’ everything, it makes no sense at all!
And just in case you are wondering, orange will not disappear in 2013, it will simply be toned down – think Nectarine!!!
